Training

According to the ANSI Z136.1 American National  Standard for Safe Use of Lasers, "Laser safety training program(s) shall be provided to the users of Class 3b or Class 4 lasers and laser systems."

Laser Safety Consulting provides several different on-site laser safety training programs. Each training program is tailored to your particular laser systems and needs, yet covers those topics required by the ANSI Z136.1 American National  Standard for Safe Use of Lasers. Durations of some programs vary depending on the number and types of lasers and laser systems at your facility. Typical training programs are as follows:

• A 60 - 90 minute general laser safety awareness program for personnel who might only occasionally enter a laser controlled area.
• A 2 - 4 hour laser safety training program covering procedures for laser personnel including laser operators and laser maintenance personnel
• An extensive two or three day laser safety training program for your designated Laser Safety Officer (LSO) and others for whom in depth laser safety knowledge is required. Upon completion of this program your LSO will be able to fulfill all the LSO responsibilities specified in the ANSI Z136.1 standard for your laser systems, including:
  • Evaluating laser hazards including the establishment of Nominal Hazard Zones (NHZs)
  • Assuring that the prescribed control measures are in effect
  • Approving Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Recommending or approving protective equipment, including laser protective eyewear
  • Approving the wording on area signs and equipment labels
  • Periodically auditing safety features of all laser installations
  • Assuring that adequate safety training is provided to laser area personnel
  • Performing additional laser safety duties as appropriate
