Laser Safety Issues

Laser safety issues can vary greatly depending on the classification of the lasers in use. Class 2 lasers, for instance, present a negligible risk to the eyes and skin. Even if you look directly into them, for instance, these lasers are not powerful enough to cause damage within the amount of time it takes for the natural aversion response to take place. In other words, if the beam from a Class 2 laser were to hit your eye, it would not have time to cause damage before you reflexively blinked.

By contrast, a Class 4 laser can cause eye damage merely from reflective exposure. You don't have to look at a Class 4 laser to experience eye damage, and you don't have to be that close to it to experience skin damage as well. Class 4 lasers can also present fire hazards, so it's vitally important that users and manufacturers of Class 4 lasers are thoroughly informed about these laser safety issues.

Laser Safety Consulting offers training courses on all levels of laser safety issues. They cover everything from proper laser eye protection to what is the correct wording on laser controlled area signs and equipment labels. How to word a laser area sign might not seem that complicated, but each classification of laser requires its own specific warnings. Laser Safety Consulting does all the research and stays up to date with laser safety requirements, so that you don't have to.

The last thing any company or employee wants is an employee injury due to inadequate training on laser safety issues.
