Laser Standard Operating Procedures (LSOP)
Laser Safety Consulting's advanced training for Laser Safety Officers provides training in a number of crucial areas, including Laser Standard Operating Procedures (LSOP). All workplaces that use laser systems and equipment must adhere to LSOP in order to ensure the safety of their employees. Because the more powerful Class 4 lasers can present a fire hazard as well as hazards to the eyes and skin, it is especially important for the Laser Safety Officer to possess comprehensive safety knowledge. One of the basics of Laser Standard Operating Procedures is to make sure that the correct eyewear is worn for the class of laser with which one is working. Class 1 lasers do not present much danger to the eyes, even if the beam were to accidentally make direct contact with the eyes. Class 4 lasers, on the other hand, can cause damage to the eyes through even reflective exposure. It is therefore vitally important that the LSO know which type of protective goggles are required around a Class 4 laser. Another topic covered in Laser Safety Consulting's LSOP training is the matter of hazardous reflections from tools and jewelry. Workers should never wear shiny, reflective jewelry or articles because of the risk of eye or skin damage. If a Class 4 laser beam bounces off a reflective tool, for instance, the beam could hit another worker and cause a burn to the eyes or skin. There are many more topics covered in the LSOP training offered by Laser Safety consulting.
